The cocker spaniel is a small hunting dog. Like many other breeds, it has earned its place as a pet over the decades, especially noticed thanks to its "beaten dog" look. He is immortalized in the famous comic book series "Boule & Bill", released in the 60s and still published today. Despite his beautiful silky coat, he is by no means a mere ball of hair! He is a genuine fun loving youngster, brimming with vitality, and needs extended periods of time of activity to feel at his best.
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE ENGLISH COCKER SPANIEL
English Cocker Spaniels are above all hunting dogs, and therefore sporting, they have a relatively long, strong, yet compact body. Its limbs are solid and firm, its head is elegantly chiseled and its skull well developed. Its soft eyes are wide, set into the skull and vary from brown to dark brown, without reaching too light a colour. The ears are characteristic of the breed: long, hanging, set relatively low, not far from the square muzzle. The standard admits a maximum ear length reaching the nose, but not exceeding it. Its short tail never stops wagging.
The hair of the cocker spaniel is smooth and silky, forming long fringes, varying in colour, with red and black in the main shades.
Some other concealing is permitted, anyway white is simply permitted on the chest in single-shaded coats.
Weight level, count between 12 and 15kg depending on the sex. For its size, it is around 40cm for males, and a little less for females.
